Paul O. Mitchell

<p><span style="font-size:14px;">Paul O. Mitchell, Fredonia (Delaware Twp.) passed away Thursday afternoon, November 11, 2020 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family following a long courageous battle with cancer.&nbsp; He was 80.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;">Paul was born in Fredonia on Feb. 6, 1940, a son of the late Walter O. and Eva Mae (Lanning) Mitchell. After having attended Lakeview Schools, &nbsp;he was a graduate of Fredonia Delaware High School Class of 1959. Following graduation Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army as a data procession unit specialist and he &nbsp;had been stationed in Italy. After leaving the Army, Paul was employed in the computer field at variety of employers.&nbsp;&nbsp; He retired in 1995 as Manager of the Computer Department of Sawhill Tubes Sharon Armco Division.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;">&nbsp;Following his retirement in 1995, Paul was called into full time ministry serving &nbsp;in a variety of United Methodist Churches , Old, Salem, North Salem, Hawthorn, Oakridge and Sheakeyville.&nbsp; Following his retirement as a full time pastor he became the Visitation pastor at Calvary and First United Methodist Church in Greenville until his passing.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;">On October 3, 1964 he married the former Jean Hogg and they recently celebrated 56 years of marriage</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;">Paul was committed to his community and to his faith, always willing to volunteer his services to help where needed.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was a 55 year member of several Lions Clubs and was currently a member of the Fredonia Lion Club and had received his 50 year membership pin, he was a member of the Fredonia United Methodist Church. &nbsp;He was actively involved with Meals on Wheels , The Salvation Army, served as a board member of Cherry Run Church Camp, he had previously been a&nbsp; youth leader and scout master.&nbsp; Paul had a passion for mission work and was committed to supporting those in the mission field.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;">Paul enjoyed going to racing events, traveling to the Outer Banks with his family, camping and he always enjoyed being able to attend and support his grandchildren&rsquo;s in their sporting and scholastic events .</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;">He loved spending time and relaxing at his dream home that he built with Jean.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;">Paul had a special and unique passion helping those who were hurting and less fortunate. His nonjudgmental, but honest approach was appreciated by many as he always offered encouragement.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;">In addition to his wife, Jean,&nbsp; he is survived by his three children, Keith (Barb) Mitchell , Fredonia, Karen (Steve) Piccirilli, Clark and Kim (Mike) Wilson, Sharpsville; &nbsp;a brother, James (Lila) Mitchell, Florida; his grandchildren,&nbsp; Staff Sergeant Jason (Bree) Morgan, stationed Army Fort Hood Texas , Garrett Morgan and his partner Chasey Kirst , Jamestown, Niko Piccirilli, Clark, Maria (Matt)&nbsp; Patsko,&nbsp; Hubbard, Valerie (Josh) Foster, West Middlesex, Tara (Rusty) Surrena , Tayler Whitesell, Sharpsville and Dillon Wilson, Sharpsville; four great grandchildren, Cole &amp; Rylee Foster, Jaxson Morgan, Emma Patsko; Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;">He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Audra.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;">Family and friend may call at the Fredonia United Methodist Church, 12 Church Street, Fredonia on Saturday, November 14, 2020, 1:00-3:00 and 5:00-7:00 pm and on Sunday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm .&nbsp; The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Tina Keller and Rev. James Tubbs officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Millbank Cemetery.&nbsp; Due to the COVID - 19 restrictions, seating for the service will be limited. It is requested that those in attendance for the visitation and service wear a facial mask and respect social distancing. Military honor will be accorded by the Greenville American Legion Post. The funeral service will be lived streamed on the face book page of Big Bend and Fredonia United Methodist Church.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;">&nbsp;Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 169 Second Street, Fredonia.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;">Donations be made to your home church or to your local Salvation Army in Paul&rsquo;s name due to the recent financial effects of the pandemic.&nbsp; &nbsp;Paul was concerned for continued funding of these organizations through this pandemic.</span></p>
