Bert Daniel “Danny” Blackmon, III, age 72, born in Florala, AL and a resident of Bay Minette, AL died Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Thomas Hospital. He was a retired teacher and historian at Summerdale and Foley Middle Schools. He was a retired Veteran of the U.S. National Guard.

Danny ‘Bert’ Blackmon loved history and enjoyed Re-enacting in many eras. He was a member of the Gen Galvez Sons of the American Revolution as well as a member of Society War of 1812 State of Alabama where he was the historian for nearly 10 years. He was an active member of the Ft. Blakeley Camp #1864, Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Brig. Gen. St. John Richardson Liddell Chapter #271, Military Order of the Stars and Bars. Danny held a special love for the War of 1812, and especially for Ft Mims (Aug 30, 1813), where he set up his tent and was the ‘Doctor’. During the re-enactments, he went to assist those wounded and dying. He assisted with most school field trips to the site as well as to the Bicentennial park in Stockton. He was also a member of the Baldwin County Historic Development Commission and gave annual history month lectures to the County Commission.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Stewart Blackmon of Bay Minette, AL; one son, Jonathan Stewart (Dawn) Kelley of Pine Grove; one sister, Nancy (Jerry) Kramer of Rosinton, AL; two grandchildren, Dillon Anderson and Jacob Kelley and godchildren, Marti (Eddie) Ferguson and Joseph, Olivia and Victoria Ferguson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert Daniel, Jr. and Helen Hash Blackmon and two grandsons, Zach Locklar and Nathan Kelley.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Chip Starnes, 2G Slaughter and Tommy Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Norris Funeral Home.
