Obituary

Joseph Hussey, 88, passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2020.  He was born at home in Taylorsville, Utah on Aug 24, 1932 to Francis and Verda Hussey.   He graduated from Granite High School in 1950.  He married his sweetheart, Bonnie Winters, on November 2, 1951.

He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He was a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple and the Mount Timpanogos Temple.  He and Bonnie served as missionaries in the California Oakland Mission and shortly after returning they served a church service mission in Member and Statistical Records.  He cherished his experience as a missionary and made many lifelong friends.

Over the years he worked in various professions.  He was a general contractor where he built homes and did remodel projects.  He worked for American Savings Bank where he supervised the completion of both Governors Plaza and American Towers.  He was a master handyman who could fix anything and work through the most difficult projects.  He lived most of his life in Taylorsville and South Jordan, and spent the last 12 years in Pleasant Grove.

Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys, gardening, helping family, neighbors and friends with home projects, reading the newspaper; especially the church news, comics, and crossword puzzles until his eyes failed him.  Whenever family or friends came by he would talk them into playing his favorite games which were Farkle and the card games Golf, and Pinnacle.  In his later years he spent most of his time doing family history, he enjoyed the challenge of finding connections with his ancestors and often felt he was led by those on the other side.  He always said he wasn't a social butterfly, but he was comfortable striking up conversations with random people everywhere he went.  He always had a comic, joke, or story to share with anyone he came in contact with.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years and their nine children Kenneth (Wendy) Hussey, Barbara (Bryan) Anderson, Diane Cole, Linda (Craig) Erickson, Raymond (Nancy) Hussey, Robert (Tana) Hussey, Brenda Hussey (Mary Ann Earl), Lee Hussey, Mathew (Mindy) Hussey. 27 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, sisters Margie (Charlie) Merrill, Edith Howard, and Kathy Clements.   He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Heather Shober, and great grandson, Zachary Evans.

The family would like to thank IHC Hospice, especially Marsha, Kim, Mike, and Ron for their compassionate care for Joe and our family.

Services will be Friday, November 13, 2020 at 11:00 am in the Pleasant Grove West Stake Center (56 South 1300 West) with a viewing beginning at 9:30 -10:45.  Due to Covid 19 restrictions face masks are required and social distancing is highly encouraged.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com
