On the morning of Tuesday, November 3, 2020 Elmer William “Bill” Ward Jr., devoted husband, father of four and friend to many, passed away in Bellingham, Washington. Bill was born on January 16, 1932 in Merriman, Nebraska. Always up for an adventure he enlisted in the army at 15 and fought in the Korean war.
On 7/1/1952 he married Della Ilene Johnson, the great love of his life. He was a dedicated Lopez Islander and served his community as a volunteer firefighter, EMT and lineman (keeping the power on in the worst weather). Bill loved to laugh, make new friends, and kept anyone around him smiling. He was a gambler, a comedian loved his ten grandchildren and 19 great grandkids and will be greatly missed by Rachel, Aaron, Virginia, Roberta, Eliza, Emily, Courtney, Ed, Chris, John, and their children.
He is survived by three of his children, Shelley, Wendy, and Rusty, his sister Frances and his brother Mick and their families. He was ready to reunite with his love, sweet Ilene, his oldest son Bill, his sister Winnie, his brother Jim and so many more. He missed his wife and old friends. He can finally breathe again.
