Leonard Mena, a current resident of Salinas, Ca; passed away unexpectedly with his family by his side on Monday; November 9, 2020. Leonard was born in Shafter, Ca on May 8, 1944 to Leonardo and Petra Mena and later moved to Soledad as a young child. He was a long time resident of South County living his adult life in Gonzales, Ca where he built a life for his family and began his many years of service in the community. He spent upwards of 35 years enriching the lives of the youth in Gonzales where he coached pop warner football, baseball, and softball teams. With the assistance of Jesse Palacios, Leonard was instrumental in chartering the Gonzales Little League into the Salinas Valley allowing them to play throughout Monterey County. Leonard can be remembered as a coach whom instilled the art of hard work and discipline into his players. His many years of service in the community also include barbecue fundraisers for various community events. Leonards willingness and famous chicken marinade made him a sought out individual for these fundraisers. In 2014, Leonard retired from Incotec/Asgrow seed company where after 46 years of loyal service. The greatest moments of Leonards life were spent in the presence of his family whether it was attending sporting events for his grandchildren, barbecues in the backyard, or just everyday moments around the house. Leonard is survived by his wife of 56 years; Julia Mena, Ronnie Mena; son, Cathlynn Mena; daughter-in-law, Sofia Estrada; daughter, Mark Estrada; son-in-law, Maddie Mena; granddaughter, Kasey Mena; grandson, Carissa Gomez; granddaughter, Paul Estrada; grandson, Steven Estrada; grandson, P.J. Estrada; great-grandson, Evan Estrada; great-grandson, Troy Estrada; great-grandson, Charissa Estrada; great-granddaughter, Salayna Estrada; great-granddaughter, Capri Barboza; great-granddaughter, Concha Moran; sister, Linda Garcia; sister, Mary Mena; sister, and a number of nieces and nephews. Leonard is preceded in death by Leonardo Mena; father, Petra Mena; mother, Henry Mena; brother, Daniel Mena; brother, Inez Mena; brother, Vincente Mena; brother, Sandra Davalos; sister, Eulalia Mena; sister, and Christopher Gomez; grandson. Visitation will be held 1:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 West San Luis Street, Salinas, Ca. 93901. Rosary will be held at 6:00p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Struve and Laporte Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 10:00a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Madonna Del Sasso Church, 320 East Laurel Drive, Salinas, CA. 93906. Burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.
