Edward Andrew Jacobsen lived an amazing life for every one of his 88 years.  He touched so many lives as he lived his life to the fullest.  Our loving Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of November 2, 2020 in Draper, Utah of natural causes.  He was born in Westwood, CA. on March 18, l932. He was the youngest child born to Hans Jacobsen and Edrya Marie Dubois with two older brothers and a sister who passed away as an infant. 

Eddie moved with his family to Vallejo, California in 1941, when his father was drafted into the U.S. Army to work as a Machinist on Mare Island in the San Francisco Bay Area, building ships and submarines for World War II. 

Even in Jr. High, Eddie excelled in Athletics and during his summers played on as many as four different City Athletic teams in the city of Vallejo.  During Eddie’s Sophomore and Junior years at Vallejo High School, Ed earned the honor of playing Baseball at Seals Stadium in San Francisco as part of the Northern California “All Star” team. 

Also, excelling in Football, Ed played on the 1949 Vallejo High School Apache’s team honored as the best High School Football Team in No. California by being inducted to the “Vallejo Sports Hall of Fame” in 2005.   Ed was also individually honored and inducted into the “Vallejo Sports Hall of Fame” as an outstanding player and coach in 2015.

 When Eddie was a Senior in High School, he received a Minor League Baseball contract to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates and he began his Pro Career in the Alabama State League.  He took part of his substantial signing bonus and bought his parents a new car.  He would go on to play Minor League Baseball for three years, hitting around .300.  Eddie played for a number of their minor league affiliates including the Waco Pirates, Phoenix Starts, and Brunswick Pirates from 1950 to 1952 and after his military service in 1955.

Eddie was Drafted into the U.S. Army in l952, where he represented our Country by playing on the Army Baseball Team at Fort Ord at the Presidio in San Francisco.  He was released in l954 from the services and went on to play professional baseball for two more years. 

Ed attended Chico State University under the “GI Bill” where he met and married  Diana M. Hess and had two of his daughters before graduating with a BA in Physical Education and earned his Teaching Credentials in 1960.  Ed was hired by Clear Lake High School and moved to Lakeport, California where He coached baseball and football and went on to start a wrestling program there at Clear Lake High in l961.

Ed had such a commitment to mentoring his young students and players that he went on to start a wrestling camp at Seigler Springs in Lake County, California in l967.  Ed thought bigger and brought in Vaughan Hitchcock, the Wrestling Coach from Cal Poly State University, San Louis Obispo, CA to expand the program. As the Wrestling Camp grew, it was moved to the Squaw Valley Ski Resort that hosted the 1960 Olympics and continues today as the Azevedo Wrestling Camp and is recognized as one of the finest wrestling skills training camps in the World.

Eddie’s love of golf and sports kept him active and healthy refereeing and umpiring well into his 70’s. Ed moved to Draper Utah in 2017 to be closer to family and enjoyed being near his youngest daughter Cynthia Lee Hewett, her family and several of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who call Utah home. Ed is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Marie Clifton, Carrie Christine Leeflang, Cynthia Lee Hewett and Son-in-laws, Michael Clifton, and Michael King Hewett.  He has fourteen grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
