Barbara Ann Sterrett Obituary

July 1st, 1953 - November 9th, 2020 Our dear mother Barbara went to be with the Lord on November 9th after fighting a 20-year battle with depression.  Barbara was born in Stayton Oregon where she was raised by her loving parents William “Bill” Adams and Geraldine “Geri” Adams (Spitz).  As a child, she enjoyed many family camping and fishing trips to places across Oregon, one of her favorite places being Crane Prairie Reservoir near Bend. Barbara loved the outdoors and found peace on her nature walks and hikes. She enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking in the cascade mountains near her home.  Barbara had a huge heart for people, plants, and animals. She rescued many animals during her life, and even bottle fed abandoned kittens on several occasions. She was well known for her green thumb, and really enjoyed growing and caring for plants.  Barbara was also a very creative person. She enjoyed painting, drawing, and playing the guitar. She was a very talented painter and she loved watching Bob Ross. Barbara instilled this creativity in each of her children and encouraged them to follow their passions in life.  In her younger years, she owned and operated several businesses including a pet supply company, a preschool, and a retail plant nursery. She loved helping people and was very self-sufficient. As a mother (and grandmother), Barbara taught her children about kindness, unconditional love and respect for others.  When things got tough Barbara was always there to support and encourage her children to keep going. Even when their dreams seemed too big to achieve she told them to never give up.  She loved communicating with, and spending time with her friends and family. She is survived by her siblings Ed Adams, Mary (Kelly) McDermitt, Sandra (Charles) Collins, and Chris Adams; her four children Justin (Heather) Sterrett, Melissa Wagner (Sterrett), Brandon Sterrett and Ashley Young (Sterrett); along with six grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.  She will be forever in our hearts. “There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar:I love not man the less, but Nature more.”-Lord Byron The family will hold a private celebration of Barbara's life.
