Jane E. Harris Obituary
Jane Harris Swan passed peacefully on November 8, 2020, at Highland Park Hospital with her husband Peter at her side. She was born in 1959 in Joliet, IL, the youngest child and third daughter of Mary L. and Willie G. Harris, Sr. She grew up riding ponies and horses and was happiest surrounded by family, friends, and animals of all kinds. She graduated from Joliet East High School in 1977, a volleyball star and homecoming queen. She received her law degree in 1983 at California Western School of Law in San Diego, CA. She moved back to Illinois where she became a respected attorney in the Joliet area and served as a Will County Public Defender for 33 years.
She is preceded in death by her loved and adored parents Mary L. and Willie G. Harris, Sr., brother Will "Bud" Harris, and sister Joan E. Brothers.
She will be dearly missed by her husband of 16 years Peter Swan of Highland Park, IL, and his loving family. Jane was loved and will never be forgotten by her sister Linda Harris Milligan (Buddy) of Charleston SC, sister-in-heart Mary Harris of Missouri, brother-in-heart Alan Brothers of Maryland, beloved nieces Holly Harris Schott (Ed), Kelly Dupriest (Earl), Lindsey Brothers Heymann (Opher), nephews Jim Jones, Zachary Brothers, and great-nieces Kelsey Jones, Kaia and Ayla Schott.
Due to COVID-19 a Celebration of Jane's life is tentatively planned for the spring of 2021.
