<p>It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Elizabeth (Betty) Laychuk announces her passing on Tuesday November 3rd, 2020 at the age of 93.<br /> Betty was born on October 27th, 1927 in the Vimy Ridge District southwest of Pine River Manitoba, the sixth of nine children born to Nykyfir and Sophie Cymbaluk. She grew up on the family farm and attended the Vimy Ridge country school.<br /> On October 8, 1949 she married John Laychuk, who would be her husband for the next 51 years. Together they farmed near Cowan Manitoba where they raised their four boys, before retiring to Dauphin in 1990.<br /> Betty enjoyed spending time with John picking berries and mushrooms, fishing and playing cards with friends during the long winter months. Betty especially enjoyed her garden along with the small greenhouse so that she could start her plants early and have the first red tomatoes in the area. She was always willing to share her crop. Canning, pickling and baking were among her other interests, but most of all she enjoyed making her famous perogies. Many family, friends and especially grandchildren, enjoyed the delicious and seemingly never ending supply.&nbsp;<br /> She also had the unusual ability to produce a full course meal as if by magic when company dropped in unexpectedly. During the winter months she would spend her time sewing and knitting and making quilts and sweaters. Until age caught up to her there was no such thing as sitting back and taking it easy. She worked unbelievably hard taking care of her family.<br /> Betty will be forever remembered by her four sons, Larry (Shirley), James (Barbara), Gordon, and Dan (Debbie) and her sister Marg (Ed) Serwa. She is also survived by her grandchildren who she loved dearly, Derrick, Charlotte, Tim, Tyler, Shanna, Riley, Brennan and Holly and 10 great-grand children.<br /> She was predeceased by her husband John in 2001, and siblings Stella Gordon, Francis Paziuk, Jean McKnight, Carol Black, Mary Cymbaluk, Mike Cymbaluk, Ella Martin, brother in law Raymond Laychuk, sister in law Mary Adye, and daughter in law Kim Laychuk.<br /> A private celebration of life will be held at a later date when current restrictions are lifted.<br /> Rest in peace</p>
