Elizabeth was born on October 28, 1920 in New York City, the fourth of five daughters born to John Logan and Mary (Farley) Logan. She often recounted incredible stories from her childhood growing up in an immigrant rich, mid-town Manhattan neighborhood. A favorite family story was her outings with her sisters and friends to swim in the East River. She worked for Harriet Hubbard Ayer, a perfume manufacturer, following graduation from Julia Richmond High School in 1938. In the midst of World War II, Elizabeth and Leonard married on February 6, 1944 in Sioux City, IA just as her new husband prepared for missions overseas with the U.S. Air Force. They lived for many years in Manhattan where all of their children were born, and then moved in 1973 to Rocky Point, NY, converting a summerhouse into their year-round home. An avid reader of fiction and current news, Elizabeth was also an enthusiastic sports fan, especially for the NY Rangers and the NY Mets.
