Colette Jeannine Kochis Hood River, Oregon Obituary

Colette Jeannine Kochis

Colette Jeannine (Dajoux) Kochis was born in Vaumas Allier France on April 30th, 1936 where she was an only child to Henri and Marie Dajoux. She lost her father when she was only an infant leaving her and her mother to endure the ravages of WWII right at their doorstep. After Primary School, she enrolled in college to study nursing. She worked as a French/English interpreter at the Service Club in Chateaureaux, France to put herself through school. In 1958 she met handsome, young Airman Joe Kochis and they had a base wedding on April 2, 1960, forever changing both their lives. After his completion of service in October 1960 they left France and moved to Joe’s childhood home in Oregon, starting their family in 1964 with the birth of Christina, followed by Eric in 1967. Colette was primarily a homemaker until Joe’s retirement in 1995. They began spending winters in Lake Havasu, AZ in 1996 where she enjoyed boating and 4-wheeling along Rte 66 with a multitude of friends. She loved riding to Oatman to see the donkeys, as well as many other sites scattered along the hundreds of miles of back roads and trails. She was very creative and had a number of passions including cooking and collecting cookbooks. She also enjoyed painting and her home is adorned with many of her beautiful works. In addition, she loved bowling, tennis, golfing, fishing, hunting and camping. Throughout the years she travelled extensively, visiting Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, and several trips back to her homeland in France and surrounding European countries. In 2009 she and Joe, along with another couple toured the U.S. on a 6 week tour from coast to coast. Colette passed peacefully in Hood River on Sunday, November 8 with her loving husband of 60 years by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Eric. She is survived by her husband Joe. Daughter Christina Bonner. Grandsons Paul Bonner III, Derek Bonner (Sage) and her pup Skip. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. A Catholic Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1401 Belmont Ave, Hood River, OR on Saturday, November 21 at 11 a.m. There is a limited number of visitors allowed. Please remember that masks are required. A memorial will be held in the Corvallis area on a future date.
