Garth Richmond Evans, 64, of Springville, passed away Saturday November 7, 2020.  He was born September 13, 1956 in Payson, Utah toMelvin “Lee” Evans and Janet Richmond Evans. 

Garth grew up in Springville where he is somewhat of a legend (sometimes for better, sometimes not so much). He and his buddies spent a lot of their youth roaming the mountains above town, exploring, hunting, camping, fishing, and getting into mischief . . . maybe even a BB gun battle or two. Garth was known as a practical joker and a bit of a smart aleck, qualities he carried with him throughout his life. He was always happy to share these traits with everyone he met, bringing a smile to the faces around him.

He graduated from Springville High School in 1974 and remained a loyal “Red Devil” for life. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was so grateful when he had the opportunity to baptize his children, one of his grandsons and perform a baby blessing on a granddaughter.

Garth made life-long friends from elementary school on, many of which he was still in contact with. Garth was known within his gigantic circle as a guy who was up for anything and a loyal friend who would help anyone with any need. He spent countless hours with his close buddies, mostly at Hobble Creek Golf Course where he was a member of the Hobble Creek Men’s Association.

His truck license plate read “Drive for show, putt for dough," which was a fitting slogan for Garth's reputation as an outstanding putter.

During his golf career he had two double eagles, five holes in one and once carded a 66 at Hobble Creek Golf Course. His nickname “Hooligater” was printed on his Titleists, along with his trademark fruit drawings. Always a practical joker, he once filled his friend Jim’s (Buckwheat) golf bag with rocks over the course of a round. He and his golf buddies went on annual golf trips to Vegas and to Pittsburgh to visit their friend Joe at Lone Pine Country Club. Garth played almost every golf course in Utah. 

Garth worked for Ensign-Bickford (Trojan Explosives) for close to 30 years in many different capacities, doing as he put it "building explosives."  After Trojan shut down, he spent another 10 plus years working as a maintenance technician at Sun Products, Sonic Blow Molding, and most recently at Young Living. Garth was known as a hard worker, a great coworker and friend. 

Most important to Garth was his family. When his work schedule permitted, he would prepare weekly dinners for his daughters and their families. Sunday morning breakfasts at Denny’s or Village Inn were a tradition for more than 10 years. Following his recovery from a serious illness a year ago, he cherished having his daughter Nicole and her family over for ice cream.

Garth loved trips to Yellowstone, and took his kids and grandkids to Lagoon nearly every year and regularly to Moab for river rafting. He cherished his baseball trips with his daughter Kim and her family to Washington, D.C., New York, Boston and California. He was an avid Dodgers fan and was excited to see them win this year's World Series. He was planning to attend Dodgers games in as many stadiums as possible with his buddy Beckett (Marty and Brenda).   

Garth is survived by his mother, Janet Richmond Evans, and his siblings Kathy Alger, Stuart (Eloise) Evans, and Sandra Evans; his 2 daughters, Nicole (Sara) Evans and Kim (Steve) Griggs, both of Springville, Utah; and 9 grandchildren, Brayden, Kyler, Madison, Chloe, Sadie, Paisley, Presley, Pete, and Alexys; and 1 great-grandson, Zade. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin “Lee” Evans and brothers-in-law Dennis (Kathy) Alger and Bryon Carter (Sandra).

 A viewing for friends and family will be held the evening of Thursday, November 12, 2020 from 6pm – 8pm at Wheeler Mortuary, located at: 211 East 200 South in Springville, Utah. There will be no burial services.
