James Alton Noble

James “Jim” Alton Noble, 76 of Lexington Park, MD formerly from Hanover, PA passed away on October 31, 2020 in Hospice House in Callaway, MD. Jim was born on February 29, 1944 in Hanover, PA, he was the second son of the late Stanley and Ethel Lansinger Noble. Jim is survived by his brothers Michael Noble (Nancy) of Salt Lake City, UT and Thomas Noble (Dixie) of Emerald Island, NC. Niece, Tyler Brodie and Nephews Jason, Jedry and Gregory Noble. After graduating from Catonsville Community College in 1965, Jim moved to St. Mary’s County. He came to Patuxent River as a Pax Plan Student/Intern in electrical engineering. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1968. Jim worked with the Telemetry Data Section of TSD and the Chesapeake Test Range Directorate. In 1972, Jim was sent to California for a year to work with Xerox to build a real time telemetry and display system for NATC Patuxent River. This system, named RTPS was first utilized on F-14 and S-3A aircraft, this system is in its 6th or 7th generation and still functioning for some testing today. The RTPS system was used on every instrumented test flight for every aircraft type the US Navy tested at Patuxent River. He, also, worked for Honeywell doing maintenance on the Chesapeake Test Range display and computer equipment. Jim retired after 28 years of government service earning many commendations. Jim enjoyed snow skiing, boating, writing, problem solving and inventing. He also wrote and published short stories for Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, Writers Digest and authored books. He was part of the Southern Maryland Writers Project and submitted to Washington Post Style Invitational. Jim won awards for participation in the “Big Idea Group” and “Invention Quest” for new inventions. After retirement, Jim volunteered with the NARFE, SMARTCO and St. Mary’s County Office on Aging teaching and refurbishing computers. All Funeral Services will be private at this time.
