Jeanette Thompson Obituary

A Memorial Service for Jeanette M. (Ryding) Thompson, age 60, of O’Neill, NE will be 2:30 pm Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Christ Lutheran Church in O’Neill. Pastor John Nelson will officiate. Jeanette passed away on November 5, 2020 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. Memorials may be given to Little Disciples Daycare in O’Neill, NE. Arrangements are entrusted with Biglin’s Mortuary of O’Neill. Jeanette Ryding-Thompson was born on April 3, 1960 to Reverend Donald S. Ryding and Elizabeth (Buskist) Ryding. Jeanette was the youngest of five children, three boys and two girls. Jeanette grew up in the Midwest until the family moved to Havre, Montana in 1975. As a teenager, Jeanette had the opportunity to travel to Jakarta, Indonesia as a foreign exchange student. Jeanette enjoyed many activities during her life. She was an accomplished seamstress, played guitar, sang, and learned to square dance when it was at the height of its popularity. She would have said, however, that her greatest accomplishment were her four children, John, Michael, Mark and Beth. Sadly, Jeanette’s experience as a foreign exchange student resulted in her contracting malaria, a virus that remained with her throughout the remainder of her life and complications led to other illnesses that plagued her. In spite of the pain that she endured, Jeanette was always upbeat and never lost her self-deprecating sense of humor. Jeanette moved from Montana in March 2020 to be closer to her mother, Elizabeth Spicer, and Liz’s husband Don, both in their 90s as well as her oldest brother John’s family. The family is grateful to have had this past eight months together. It allowed them to spend precious time enjoying each other’s company, renewing the bond between parent, sibling, and child, and appreciating the time together, and taking pleasure in the small things that come to mean so much: a good movie, cooking together, a hearty game of dominoes, or cribbage in the evening. Jeanette is survived by her mother Elizabeth Spicer, and husband Donald of O’Neill, NE; children, John Ross and family, Michael Ross and family, Mark Woods and family all of Missoula, MT, and Beth Woods and family of Arlington, WA; 7 grandchildren, Sebastian, Lilly, Kelley, Keely, Alex, Emily, and Matthew; brothers Rev. John (Kathryn) Ryding of Hillsboro, KS, and David (Irene) Ryding of Maui, HI; sister, Marilyn (P.J.) Giammaria of Burbank, CA; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Jeanette is preceded in death by her father; brother, Mark Ryding; and husband, Ronald Woods.
