Marianne Bernadette Ketcham

Marianne Bernadette Egan Ketcham, 87, passed away on November 6, 2020 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born January 7, 1933 in Glen Cove, New York and was raised in Locust Valley, New York. Marianne graduated from Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, New York in June of 1950 and attended Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.  On May 17, 1952 she married Richard H. Ketcham Sr.  at Saint Patrick's Church in Glen Cove, NY. When the couple got married, Dick was in the United States Navy, consequently they moved several times: First, to New London, CT, then to the US Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, IL., then to Charleston, SC. and lastly Norfolk, VA. Upon her husband’s discharge from the Navy on March 7, 1955, Dick began his career at IBM. They soon moved from Norfolk to Wallingford, CT, and then to New City, Rockland County, N.Y. where they lived for 24 years. In 1985 Marianne and Dick moved to East Hampton, N.Y where they lived until 2015. In 2015 they moved to Fredonia, N.Y. Before getting married, Marianne worked as a comparison shopper at Lord and Taylor's, Gimbel's and Bloomingdale's in New York City. While living in Rockland County she continued to work in retailing and also worked as the Circulation Manager for “The Rockland Leader”, a local newspaper. She also worked for many years in East Hampton as an Election Inspector. Marianne always enjoyed camping with her husband and her family. Her favorite spots were Hither Hills, N.Y. and the Florida Keys. Her most memorable trip was an eight week adventure across the United States in 1970. Marianne also liked gardening and even enjoyed “sharing” some of her flowers with the local deer at her home in Springs on Long Island.   Marianne is survived by: her husband of sixty-eight years, Richard H. Ketcham, Sr.; six children: JoAnn Ketcham of Rochester, N.Y. and Fredonia, N.Y., Elizabeth Susan Sanderson of Coral Springs, FL., Richard H. (Susan) Ketcham Jr. of Fredonia, N.Y., James Scott (Susan) Ketcham of Warner, N.H., John Alan “Jay” (Eileen) Ketcham of Bow, N.H. and Jeffrey W. (Carolyn) Ketcham of Easthampton, MA., fourteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. Marianne is predeceased by her parents, James F. and Edna Coddington Egan; her brother, James F. Egan II and her sister, Patricia Ryder Zeliff. Memorial contributions in Marianne’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, P.O.
