Dolores Mae (Laliberte) Twerdy, 90, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2020 at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Storrs, CT. She was born August 16, 1930 in Willimantic, CT to Ernest and Emelia (Hebert) Laliberte. Dolores graduated from St. Mary School and Windham High School, Class of 1948, and went to work for her father at Liberty Restaurant in Thread Mill Square in Willimantic, CT until his death in 1963. The restaurant was then sold, and Dolores worked at Hillside Restaurant in Coventry, CT. She married Alexander Stephen Twerdy on September 3, 1951 at St. Mary Church in Willimantic, CT. They made their home on Pleasant Street in Willimantic until Steve built a new home near the Willimantic River. Dolores is survived by her brother Ernest Laliberte Jr. (Barbara), sister Patricia Bentley (Lyle), sister-in-law Leona Gordon, brother-in-law John Twerdy (Claire), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Besides her parents, Dolores was predeceased by her husband, Steve, his four sisters and eight brothers, her brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her family would like to thank all of the nurses and staff at the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for all of their care and kindness during these difficult times. They would also like to thank the nurses from Hospice who made her last days as comfortable as possible. Dolores’ graveside service will be private at Nathan Hale Cemetery in Coventry, CT.
