<p>Dr. Daniel Wayne Welch, 71, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, entered peacefully into Eternal Life Friday, November 6, 2020 in his home.<br /> <br /> He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Hilda Welch and the late Johnnie L. Welch. Dr. Welch was married to the love of his life, his sweetheart Shannon Marie, for 48 years. Their proudest achievement was their three children, Sean Welch, Heather Bellemore, and Erin Hill, and their seven grandchildren, Victoria Rose Welch, Nicholas Alexander Welch, Chase Michael Bellemore, Grayson Daniel Bellemore, Lily Margaret Hill, Andrew Christopher Hill, and Grace Katherine Hill. Dr. Welch loved learning and sharing with others everything about the transcendent Beauty that is God in physics, theology, astronomy, music, and literature. He devotedly taught the young people of Wofford College for 42 years, sharing his joy in life with them. He and his beloved wife proudly considered their spiritual home to be St. Mary&rsquo;s Catholic Church.<br /> <br /> Family and friends are invited to join in praying the Holy Rosary together at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home (639 N. Main St., Greenville) on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at 6:00 in the evening, and they are also invited to the Funeral Mass to be celebrated for him the following day on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 12 noon at St. Mary&rsquo;s Catholic Church in downtown Greenville. Dr. Welch will then be laid to rest in St. Mary&rsquo;s Sacred Heart Columbarium beside the church he so loved.<br /> <br /> Donations in his memory may be made to his favorite cause, which was very dear to his heart, The Institute for Advanced Physics at PO Box 15030, Baton Rouge, LA 70895 or to his treasured parish, St. Mary&rsquo;s Catholic Church at 111 Hampton Ave, Greenville, SC 29601.<br /> <br /> &ldquo;For me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.&rdquo; (Philippians 1:21) St. Thomas Aquinas, pray for us!</p>
