Audrey Richter Obituary

Audrey (O’Brien) Richter was born on the Belanger Farm in Suttons Bay, MI on February 27, 1935, died in Grand Rapids November 6, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Dick Richter, parents Alfred and Rosella O’Brien, and brother John O’Brien. Audrey is survived by her children Paul (Melissa) Richter, Peggy (Alan) Lipp, Kurt (Dawn) Richter, 10 Grandchildren, and 10 Great-grandchildren, and brother Tom (Barb) O’Brien. Growing up in Traverse City, MI, Audrey was Valedictorian at St. Francis H.S., one of the first graduates of Northwestern Michigan College, and a student at Marquette University before settling into Grand Rapids for most of her life where she served in many ways. Her love of education and reading was evident in many years as a para-professional at the Grand Rapids Public Schools, and thousands of books she read to her grandchildren. Her value of faith was lived out as a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, volunteering in countless ways for many organizations, such as Gilda’s Club where she used her gift of knitting for many years. In addition to knitting, Audrey enjoyed quilting, sewing, needlepoint, embroidery, cooking, baking, singing, antiquing, and attending sporting events with Dick. In her later years, she battled Alzheimer’s and the related effects that took her away from the people and things she loved. The family is grateful for the compassionate care and community of St. Ann’s Home. A private funeral will be held. Those wishing to honor her memory are asked to consider a gift to St. Ann’s Home (2161 Leonard St NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504) in lieu of flowers.
