John Robert Witteman Obituary

John “Shorty” Robert Witteman, 67, of Nampa, passed away after a short illness on November 5, 2020. He was a beloved partner, brother, grandfather, uncle, great-uncle and friend. He will always be remembered for his mischievous smile and for his delicious cooking. A memorial service will be held at Lake View Bible Church located at 1010 Green Hurst Road in Nampa on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. Cremation was under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. John was born on December 5, 1952 in Caldwell, to John and Roberta (Wagers) Witteman. John and his younger sister, Kristy, were raised on the family farm south of Nampa. John graduated from Nampa High School in 1971 and from the University of Idaho with a degree in Agribusiness in 1975. After college, John went back to run the family farm, which he did until his retirement. John loved working on the farm and how he never knew what his day would look like. He also loved watching the ground turn from brown to green through the seasons. John served as a volunteer firefighter for the Upper Deer Flat Fire Department for most of his adult life. He was an incredibly hard working and generous man who was always willing to lend a hand to a friend or neighbor in need. His nieces and nephew are especially grateful for the support, love, and advice John gave them throughout their lives. Every Christmas, John would make delicious caramel popcorn for his friends and family. John never met a Labrador retriever that he didn’t love. His faithful dog, Tank, will miss him dearly. He loved to garden and was proud of his peach trees, tomatoes and beautiful roses. He was an avid snowmobiler. John met the love of his life, Linda Andrews, twelve years ago and spent the happiest years of his life with her and her family who held him in great esteem. John is survived by his partner, Linda Andrews and her loving children Everett Lanham (Veda), Todd Lanham and children Blake and Taylor, their mother Kendra Lanham, Kenny Lanham (Corrie) and their daughter Sage and three great granddaughters, his sister Kristy Blanksma (Jim), his aunt Mary (John) Wagers and her family, nephew Matthew Blanksma, nieces Mary Martinez (Alonzo), and Megan Judkins (Thaddeus) as well as 9 great nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his parents. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
