<p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;">Richard J Smith, born June 6, 1930 in Vancouver WA then a Gig Harbor resident since 1980, passed away on September 24, 2020 at his Harbor Place home with family at his side. </span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;">Richard was a loving husband, father, and friend.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;">He attended Alki High School in Vancouver WA, met his wife and later served as a medic in the Korean War.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;">Richard led an amazing life traveling most parts of the world with his loving wife of 69 years, Benita (who passed away in 2019).&nbsp; They had wonderful friends who have been a large part of their lives to the very end.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;">He was a member of the Fircrest Methodist Church for almost 50 years and was a big part of serving the community alongside his wife and church family.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;">Surviving family members include his daughters Kelley Johnson, husband Douglas of Gig Harbor and Tracey Erb, husband Jerry of Cape Coral Florida, Grandchildren, Bailey Johnson, Patrick Erb, Cody Erb and Chloe Erb.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;">He loved his family and friends deeply and will be greatly missed by everyone he knew and loved.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;">There will be no service as the family wishes for a small intimate family gathering.</span></span></p>

Richard J Smith, born June 6, 1930 in Vancouver WA then a Gig Harbor resident since 1980, passed away on September 24, 2020 at his Harbor Place home with family at his side.

Richard was a loving husband, father, and friend.

He attended Alki High School in Vancouver WA, met his wife and later served as a medic in the Korean War.

Richard led an amazing life traveling most parts of the world with his loving wife of 69 years, Benita (who passed away in 2019).  They had wonderful friends who have been a large part of their lives to the very end.
