Bernard Richard Levinthal M.D. (Dick), loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on October 31, 2020 at Swedish Issaquah with his wife, Carol Lee by his side. Dick was born on June 12, 1935 in Paterson, New Jersey, to Emma and Maurice Levinthal. He graduated from Clifton High School in 1952. Dick was voted student most likely to succeed by his classmates. He graduated from Colgate University in 1955 (Cum Laude) Phi Beta Kappa. In Dicks words: After Colgate the next four years were spent in New York City obtaining an M.D. Degree at NYU College of Medicine. I then served as a rotating Intern at the University of Virginia Hospital. Active duty in the Naval Reserve sent me on an eight-month cruise with stops in Australia and New Zealand. After another year of service in Vallejo, California, where I met and married my first wife, Pam, we returned to Seattle in 1962 for a year of surgical training Swedish Hospital. Following that, we were off to the University of Iowa for a residency in otolaryngology, head, and neck surgery. In 1966, we returned to Seattle where I practiced otolaryngology until retiring in 1998. We lived in Bellevue on the shore of lake Washington where we raised our three children, Tom, Mara, and Susie. Fishing became my main get away with many enjoyable outings spent with the Washington Fly Fishing Club and other friends. Sadly, Pam developed cancer and passed away in 1993. Shortly after that, I was side lined for heart valve surgery and began to think more about retiring and reconnecting with old friends. A few years later a lovely nurse agreed to go out with me. A year or so later, Carol Lee and I married. Once Again Life is Sweet. My husband loved being in nature. His passions were fly fishing, opera, gardening, and travel. Dick was a good man, a man who loved deeply. His moral integrity, loyalty, and humanity are an inspiration to all who knew him. So very special he was, to all of us. Dick is survived by his wife, Carol Lee, children Tom Bliss, Mara Levarre, Susie Ross, (Nathan White), grandchildren Luna and Beckett White, stepmother Merna Levinthal, brother in law, Peter Lynch and nephews, Tim Lynch and Pat Lynch.
