Anthony L. Gaines Obituary

Anthony Lewis Gaines, age 58 departed this life on Friday, October 30, 2020, at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton. Anthony is the son of George Gaines and the late Lena Gaines. Father of Yendis Malloy and Markies Wiggins. Brother of Shelia Gaines, Shern Gaines-Brown (Currie), Valencia Warner all of Wilmington, Delaware; Nina Matthews (Sylvester) of Atlanta Georgia, and Angelo Warner (Camela) of Atlanta, Georgia. Grandfather of Dae-Vion Sanders and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Anthony was born on January 30, 1962, in Salisbury, Maryland. At an early age, his mother and family relocated to Wilmington, Delaware. He graduated from Howard High School of Technology as an Auto Diesel Mechanic. After graduation he enlisted in the military and after completing 6 years of dedicated service, he was honorably discharged. After the military he worked at Del-Dot in Wilmington, Delaware, and the Port of Wilmington. Anthony’s passion was carpentry and worked along side with Mr. James Johnson for 20 plus years remodeling houses and doing odd jobs. Anthony always called him “J.J.” as he was an incredibly good friend to him, and they talked every day. In addition, an exceptionally good friend, Ernest Thomas, that he met a few years ago, a person that believed in him as he was always looking out for him and his well-being. He never judged him, criticized him, and always has his back and for that he was a better person. Well this journey has been good, and he had every opportunity to live life and he did just that his way. Yes, he would have wanted to love longer, but that was not God’s plan. He had 58 years of living, some bad and some good. Anthony’s friend always said, “I’ve seen it all,” “I’ve done it all,” “I just can’t remember it all.” Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not to your own understanding and in all your ways, submit to the Lord and he will make your path straight (Proverbs 3: 5-6). Well, Anthony must go now, he is being summoned to his heavenly home to be with his mother, his Big Mom, his brother, Uncle Erving, and a lot of others were waiting for him. Until we meet again, continue to do the work God has called you to do. From the Family of Ernest Thomas: We are grateful to have had the opportunity to know Anthony, also, affectionately known as “Uncle Antny.” He was part of some of the most significant moments of our lives, getting married, moving in a new home, and finding out we are going to have a new addition to our family. He was always there to help when we needed a helping hand. Although, we did not know him that long, he was part of the family and was so proud of our accomplishments. He was a self-starter and would take it upon himself to fix anything that needed to be fixed or to complete a task. He could not sit still and was always looking for something to do. We will cherish our memories of him.
