Alberta "Bertie" M. Tschida Obituary

Alberta M. Kasparek was born 5/18/39 in Steele City, Nebraska, to George and Agnes Kasparek. Sometime later, they moved to a farm near Alexandria, Nebraska. One event she remembered when she was 3 years of age was her dad bringing home 2 young badgers which her mom raised as pets. They were the body guards for Alberta if she went to work in the garden. Not even her dad could come near her. Next they moved to a farm north of Barnes, Kansas. After a long illness, of which she spent 2 months in Lincoln General Hospital her mom was instructed by a doctor that Alberta had to take a nap in the afternoon. However, when mom was asleep, she quietly tip-toed out of the house and went down to the barn to milk Cheerios, their cow. The cats were always lined up ready for the snack. She grew up in a small town of Haddam, KS in the 40's and 50's. Her parents owned and operated a gas station and grocery store where she spent most of her time. After graduating from Haddam High in 1957 she attended Fairbury Jr. College for a Business Degree, then to Peru State College, graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor Degree in Education. The first year Alberta was a Business Teacher in Palmyra, Nebraska. The second year found her in Bellevue, Nebraska where she became a Librarian and a Business teacher. It was here that she met Gene Tschida, her future husband, who was Vice-President of the Bank of Bellevue. They were married on June 2nd, 1963. Linda was the flower girl and Alan was the ring bearer. Ron arrived on the scene on April 10th, 1964. In 1967 Gene accepted a job as President of the Clarke Bank which was to become Bank of Papillion at Papillion, Nebraska. Alberta accepted a job with Westside Community Schools where she was a Media Specialist for 31 years. She retired from teaching with a total of 34 years. She enjoyed going on trips with her husband. She decided to take quilting lessons and some of her friends joined her. After completing her practice quilt, she made a quilt using 107 of Gene's ties and presented it to him at his bank Christmas Party. She also became a Certified Scuba Diver, rafting several rivers, skied in Colorado until her accident in 2000 which injured both knees. After orthoscopic surgery it was discovered she had snapped both ACL's and MCL's. Instead of going through 2 separate surgeries, she chose to exercise 2 times a day. Then in 2003, Gene wanted to take a biking adventure in the San Juan Islands. Trying out the rental bike in the parking lot, she decided to have her toe clips on the pedal removed and when she stopped she could not remove her foot fast enough and fell on her elbow and broke it. Then in 2006, Gene decided to go biking himself and she went along as a ride-along. She took pictures to show him what he didn't see. She collected souvenir spoons and always liked to polish them each year so she could relive the adventures again. Alberta passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 in Bellevue, Nebraska at the age of 81 years from Lewy Body Dementia complicated by Covid-19. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Agnes Kasparek; husband Eugene “Gene” Tschida; and great-grandson Oliver. Alberta is survived by her children Ron and wife Teresa, step-daughter Linda, step-son Alan and wife Gay; five grandchildren Hannah, Karen, Roger, Laura, and Samantha; and four great-grandchildren Perrin, Simon, Hunter, and Theodore.
