Iva Lee (Houston) Marshall Obituary

Iva Lee Houston Marshall, 98, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was called to her eternal resting place on November 3, 2020. She entered this world on April 27, 1922 on the Lewis Webb farm, born to Eddie Cora Houston. She was raised by her mother and grandparents in the Middleton community. Iva was a life-long resident of Leon County. Iva accepted Christ at a very early age and until her health failed, she was an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Centerville. She taught Sunday School, BTU and regularly attended bible study. Iva was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Elvin Marshall, Sr.; her mother, a special aunt, Lorine, and four bonus children; Gennell Marshall, Robert Marshall, Muriel Marshall Johnson and Cora Marshall Hopwood. She is survived by four sons, James of Huntsville, Texas, Jack (Beverly) of Lynwood, Illinois, David (Doris) of Normangee, Texas and Larry of Centerville, Texas; two daughters, Shirley Crawley (Douglas) of Monroe Township, New Jersey and Janice Johnson (Albert) of Richmond, Texas. Additional survivors are her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are too numerous to count. She was affectionately called various names by them including Big Mama, Little Mama, Mammy and Big-Big. Iva was happiest when she was gardening. She never saw a piece of soil, hoe, rake or shovel that she didn’t like. She was a very strong and independent woman who loved God and her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, but she is resting in the arms of Jesus. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8 Funeral services for Iva will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, November 7, 2020 Walters Funeral Home 610 S. Commerce Street, Centerville, Texas. Internment will be in the Ward Cemetery. The service will be officiated by her son-in-law, Dr. G. Douglas Crawley, pastor of Community Bible Fellowship Church of Aberdeen, New Jersey. Because of COVID-19, there will not be a repast. The family will convene together at some time later in the future. Arrangements are entrusted to Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
