Robert Paul Paulison Obituary

Major Robert P. Paulison (US Army Ret.) age 82 of Annapolis, Maryland, died on Saturday, 31 October 2020. He was born in Manville, Rhode Island, the son of John and Cecilia Paulison. He was a graduate of Mount Saint Charles Academy in Manville, Rhode Island; and held a BA from Providence College, and a BS in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University. MAJ Paulison was a member of the Army Corps of Engineers, and his military career of more than 20 years was marked by honor and distinction. Commissioned in 1962 upon graduation from Providence College, he served with the 19th Engineer Battalion (Fort Meade, Maryland); the 809th Engineer Battalion (Thailand); the Engineer School (Fort Belvoir, Virginia); and the 69th Construction Battalion (Long Binh, Vietnam). He was the Director of Utilities at the Engineer School (Fort Belvoir, Virginia); an Associate Professor with the US Army Instructor Group at The Ohio State University; a MAC V advisor (Mekong Delta, Vietnam); the Executive Officer of the 84th Engineer Battalion (Schofield Barracks, Hawaii) and the 45th Support Group (Fort Shafter, Hawaii). While with the 84th Engineer Battalion, he spent time on Eniwetok Atoll in the Marshall Islands. He retired from First Army Headquarters (Fort Meade, Maryland) in April 1983. His awards included the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf cluster; the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Technical Service Medal (First Class), and the Humanitarian Service Medal. Following his career in the Army, he worked for 20 years as a construction manager at the University of Maryland in College Park. Of the many projects he supervised, he was most proud of the Plant Sciences building, and the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. He is survived by his wife Roberta (Frezza), son Robert J. Paulison, daughter Michelle (Paulison) Pierce, and three grandchildren (Emily and Sophie Paulison, and Austin Pierce). He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Claudette Paine. God’s Garden God looked around his garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never Get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelids And whispered, “Peace be thine”. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you The day God called you home.
