Martha moved with her family to St. Louis, MO when she was 9 years old.  She graduated from Maries County R-II High School, Belle, MO.  She met her future husband, James "Jim" Snodgrass, before he left to serve in the military during World War II.  They married in Owensville, MO on December 27, 1946 and to this union 4 children were born.  Martha worked as a secretary in Jim's insurance companies, MFA and Shelter Insurance.  In 1960 they moved from Owensville, MO to Steelville, MO.

Martha enjoyed working with the Cub Scouts.  She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, vegetables, canning, crafts, art, quilting, crocheting, and painting with both water colors and oil.    Among her many other hobbies and chores, was sheep shearing which then entailed the old time wool arts of:  washing, coloring, drying the wool, then cording and spinning on a spinning wheel.  Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
