Linda Sue Hein (Haugen) Plummer Obituary

A fourth-generation Kitsap County resident, Linda Sue Hein (Haugen) Plummer, was born March 21, 1937 in the Charleston Area of Bremerton to R. Nicholas and Jessie (Wilkinson) Hein.  She attended various Bremerton grade schools, Coontz Junior High and graduated from Bremerton High School in June of 1954. She married Milow O. Haugen and they moved onto an old chicken ranch in the Waterman Area and began raising their four children.  While the children were young, she taught at the Parkwood Community Club Cooperative Preschool sponsored by Charleston Baptist Church.  She then attended Bremerton Business College and on graduation worked at Puget Sound Laundry and then PSNS as a clerk/secretary.  When the shipyard started their Upward Mobility Program, she applied and was accepted in the design division as an engineering aide.  She continued her education at Olympic College and her climb up the position ladder.  She retired from the shipyard in 1989 as an engineering technician. She divorced in 1972 and married William (Bill) “Luey” Plummer in 1978.  After she and Bill retired, they spend several winters in Yuma when they found that there was too much going on here in the Kitsap area.  They were active in the Elks 1181 Travel-N-Fun RV Club. She is survived by her four children: Bruce Haugen (Sandy) of Algona, WA; Jeanette Winn (Mike) of Tahuya, WA; R. Jay Haugen (Trish) of Pasco, WA; and Julie Boardman (Tom) of Cottage Grove, OR; four step-children: Karla Herdman (Rick) of Bremerton; Gail O’Grady of Poulsbo; Dean Plummer (Rosie) of Everett, WA; and Kevin Plummer (Tammy) of Port Orchard; seventeen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was an active member of Manchester Community Church, Elizabeth Ellington Chapter NSDAR, Puget Sound Genealogy Society, an honored member of the Kitsap Historical Society, Waterman Associated Clubs and, the Thayer Family Association
