Jasmine was born to Doreen T. Crosby and Henry White, in San Diego, California. She was immediately loved by her big brother and protector, James whom she called – Say Jay.  Jasmine had a lot of friends and family and earned a lot of names, like Ram Jet, Raz-a-tat, Trudy the Second, Niecy-niecy, Little Momma, Jazzy, Sister, and Home Girl. Of all the names she had, she cherished Auntie Jas and Godmom most.

Jasmine matriculated through the San Diego Unified School District before moving to Lewisville, Texas with her mother. During the sophomore year of high school, Jasmine was diagnosed with Scleroderma. While her health allowed, she was active in the Scleroderma Foundation Southern California Chapter having attended meetings and fundraisers.

Jasmine loved to eat good food. You would know when she liked her food, because she would hum while eating it. This passion for food led her to pursue a career in the culinary arts and nutrition. After graduating from Lewisville High School, she enrolled in North Central Texas College. She worked as a Dietician Aide at Vista Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lewisville.

Jasmine’s longed to be around family and returned home. She continued her education at San Diego Mesa College and simultaneously worked in the kitchen at Sharp Mesa Vista. Jasmine’s health did not permit her to finish her education or career. 

Although she was baptized at Prince Chapel A.M.E. Church, she developed a personal relationship for Christ at Westside Baptist Church, Lewisville. She would recall the sermons by the youth minister. While there she sang in the Remnant Choir and attended Bible Study and Sunday School every week. Jasmine longed to find a church like Westside in San Diego.

Jasmine liked to boogie and cheer: Let’s go Raiders (Balboa)! Jasmine also liked the San Diego Chargers, until they left. More than being known for cheering and dancing, she was known for being meticulously about her appearance. She dressed to the nines, with her flawless make-up: Those brows though. She kept her nails and feet manicured. She also made sure her do was done.

Jasmine leaves many mourners: including her mother Doreen “My Mommy”; father Henry (Beverly) of Ft. Wayne; paternal grandmother Frances Smothers, brother James Lacey Sr.; nephew James Lacey Jr.; Goddaughters Neotha and Amari; second parents, Dane and Rosalind Robinson; great-aunts and uncles Mary “Nana” and Freeman Handy, and Nan and Jerry Esters of The Colony, Texas; with a host of aunts and uncles; Godsisters and Godbrothers; cousins (many of whom became play sisters and brothers), and great friends, including her bff Camille Dennis. Can’t forget the babies. Jasmine loved the babies and the babies loved Jasmine.
