Pharis Dean Edwards,85, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Arkansas. He was born on March 9, 1935, in Piggott, Arkansas, and was the son of the late Delmar and Myrtle (Haywood) Edwards. Pharis was united in marriage to Peggy (McDowell) Edwards on September 2, 1967, and to this union three children were born. On August 30, 2011, his wife, Peggy, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one son, Patrick Edwards. Survivors include his son Phillip Edwards of Piggott, Arkansas; daughter, Nancy Holmes and husband Ronnie of Piggott, Arkansas; grandson, Brandon Massey of Piggott, Arkansas; granddaughter, Ambrea Massey of Paragould, Arkansas; granddaughter, Gracelynn Holmes of Piggott, Arkansas; sister, Ona Sue Cole and husband Jack of Piggott, Arkansas; nephew, Scott Cole and wife Tracy of Piggott, Arkansas; and many other relatives and friends. Pharis served in the United States Army from 1958 - 1960. He was a school teacher and taught Jr. High Science in the Campbell R-II School District for 26 years. After retiring from teaching, Pharis later became Clay County Veteran's Service Officer for 12 years. Pharis was a member of First United Methodist Church of Piggott, Arkansas, where he enjoyed participating in the church choir for many years. Graveside services will be held Friday, November 6, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas, with Rev. Jack Cole officiating. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements.
