<p>Rosetta Irene&nbsp;Riggs,&nbsp;age&nbsp;96, of&nbsp;Leawood,&nbsp;KS peacefully passed&nbsp;away&nbsp;Tuesday, October 27, 2020.&nbsp;&nbsp;Visitation will be&nbsp;Monday, November 2,&nbsp;10:30 a.m.&nbsp;at the Overland Park Church of God (Holiness)&nbsp;with funeral&nbsp;services&nbsp;following at&nbsp;11:30 a.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will be in&nbsp;Oak Lawn&nbsp;Cemetery, Olathe, KS.&nbsp;</p> <p>In 2010,&nbsp;Rosetta was preceded in death by&nbsp;Virgil,&nbsp;her husband&nbsp;of 63 years.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by a daughter Sondra, by her brother Harlen Dockum, and by her sisters Alta Price,&nbsp;Ilene Yocum, and Lavena Crooks.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>Rosetta&nbsp;is survived by&nbsp;a son&nbsp;Larry&nbsp;and wife&nbsp;Dvonna&nbsp;and a&nbsp;daughter Marilyn&nbsp;Peters.&nbsp;&nbsp;She is also survived by&nbsp;grandchildren&nbsp;Jeremy and&nbsp;Natalie Riggs, Jason&nbsp;and Megan Riggs, Jamie and&nbsp;Nicholas Leach, Jeffrey&nbsp;and Sylvia&nbsp;Peters, Sean&nbsp;Peters,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Tyler Peters.&nbsp; Also surviving are&nbsp;great-grandchildren&nbsp;Rowan Riggs,&nbsp;Rosalind Riggs, Jaxon Riggs, Dakota Riggs, Braden Leach, Wyatt Leach,&nbsp;Caleb Leach,&nbsp;Maria&nbsp;Kille,&nbsp;Adaline Peters,&nbsp;Mollee Peters,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Cooper Peters.&nbsp;</p> <p>Also surviving Rosetta are her brothers&nbsp;Burl&nbsp;Dockum&nbsp;and&nbsp;wife Eleanor&nbsp;and&nbsp;Floyd&nbsp;Dockum&nbsp;and&nbsp;wife Connie,&nbsp;her&nbsp;sister&nbsp;Ardena McConnell and husband Dean, sister-in-law Neva Morris,&nbsp;and&nbsp;numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;</p> <p>Rosetta was born January 25, 1924 in Deora,&nbsp;CO to Arthur &amp; Reta Dockum, the&nbsp;second of eight children&nbsp;in a&nbsp;hard-working&nbsp;farming family.&nbsp;&nbsp;After some difficult depression years,&nbsp;the&nbsp;Dockums returned&nbsp;to&nbsp;hometown&nbsp;May,&nbsp;OK.&nbsp; Rosetta&nbsp;moved away from home to finish&nbsp;high school and attend&nbsp;college in Overland Park at Kansas City College&nbsp;and Bible School.&nbsp; While there, she&nbsp;met her future husband, Virgil&nbsp;Riggs.&nbsp;</p> <p>Rosetta married Virgil on&nbsp;May 18, 1947 in Overland Park, KS.&nbsp; During the&nbsp;next several years, Rosetta &amp; Virgil pursued further education&nbsp;with the goals of ministry and teaching.&nbsp; Rosetta earned&nbsp;a BS&nbsp;in Home Economics, a Master of Religious Education, and a MS in Home Economics.&nbsp; After training, Rosetta assisted Virgil with&nbsp;Christian&nbsp;ministry in a number of locations,&nbsp;finally&nbsp;retiring&nbsp;with him&nbsp;to Overland Park, KS in 1995.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>Though she enjoyed teaching, Rosetta&nbsp;first loves were of ministry and family.&nbsp; She&nbsp;spent&nbsp;her life dedicated to her roles as mother, homemaker, and pastor&rsquo;s wife.&nbsp;&nbsp;Rosetta focused on loving others and providing a caring atmosphere for people in need.&nbsp; Beloved by family and friends, Rosetta will be greatly missed, but we have joy she is now in heaven with her&nbsp;adored&nbsp;husband.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Obituary

Rosetta Irene Riggs, age 96, of Leawood, KS peacefully passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020.  Visitation will be Monday, November 2, 10:30 a.m. at the Overland Park Church of God (Holiness) with funeral services following at 11:30 a.m.  Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Olathe, KS. 

In 2010, Rosetta was preceded in death by Virgil, her husband of 63 years.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter Sondra, by her brother Harlen Dockum, and by her sisters Alta Price, Ilene Yocum, and Lavena Crooks.   

Rosetta is survived by a son Larry and wife Dvonna and a daughter Marilyn Peters.  She is also survived by grandchildren Jeremy and Natalie Riggs, Jason and Megan Riggs, Jamie and Nicholas Leach, Jeffrey and Sylvia Peters, Sean Peters, and Tyler Peters.  Also surviving are great-grandchildren Rowan Riggs, Rosalind Riggs, Jaxon Riggs, Dakota Riggs, Braden Leach, Wyatt Leach, Caleb Leach, Maria Kille, Adaline Peters, Mollee Peters, and Cooper Peters. 

Also surviving Rosetta are her brothers Burl Dockum and wife Eleanor and Floyd Dockum and wife Connie, her sister Ardena McConnell and husband Dean, sister-in-law Neva Morris, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Rosetta was born January 25, 1924 in Deora, CO to Arthur & Reta Dockum, the second of eight children in a hard-working farming family.  After some difficult depression years, the Dockums returned to hometown May, OK.  Rosetta moved away from home to finish high school and attend college in Overland Park at Kansas City College and Bible School.  While there, she met her future husband, Virgil Riggs. 

Rosetta married Virgil on May 18, 1947 in Overland Park, KS.  During the next several years, Rosetta & Virgil pursued further education with the goals of ministry and teaching.  Rosetta earned a BS in Home Economics, a Master of Religious Education, and a MS in Home Economics.  After training, Rosetta assisted Virgil with Christian ministry in a number of locations, finally retiring with him to Overland Park, KS in 1995.   

Though she enjoyed teaching, Rosetta first loves were of ministry and family.  She spent her life dedicated to her roles as mother, homemaker, and pastor’s wife.  Rosetta focused on loving others and providing a caring atmosphere for people in need.  Beloved by family and friends, Rosetta will be greatly missed, but we have joy she is now in heaven with her adored husband.
