Janet A. Carey Obituary

Janet A. Carey, 94, of Main Street, Champlain, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on October 31, 2020. She was born in Chateaugay, NY on February 3, 1926, the daughter of Frank and Georgiana (Senecal) LaFountain. She graduated from Chateaugay High School in 1943, and married William (Bill) Carey on July 18th, 1943. She was a homemaker and the mother of nine children. Janet loved singing for church services and teaching her loved ones her favorite songs. She enjoyed camping, gardening, crocheting, knitting, and playing the organ. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, as well as square dancing with the North Country Squares, the Northern Lights, and Moonshine Squares. Janet and Bill enjoyed the peacefulness and beauty of the camp they built on Chateaugay Lake in 1971. Gatherings of family and friends on the lake were a true joy for them. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, and was a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Janet was known for her strong Christian Faith and prayed the Rosary daily. She taught religious education at St. Mary’s and welcomed class picnic outings at her home on Cherry Street. Janet is survived by her loving Children: Patricia (Lawrence) Carey, Bill and Anne Carey, and Dan and Gail Carey all of Rouses Point; Kate and Stan Desautels, Webster, FL; Rita and Mike Fay, Kingsport, TN; and Jim and Kathy Carey, Champlain. Janet is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Janet was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband of 75 years, Bill Carey in 2018; her daughter Georgiana in 1963; son Frank in 2012; and son John in 2017; also her brother Arnold LaFountain and her sisters Cleo Scott and Rita Linney Hart. Calling hours will be held at M. B. Clark Funeral Home, 196 Elm Street, Champlain on Tuesday, November 3rd from 4PM to 6PM. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, Champlain on Wednesday, November 4th at 11AM. Masks and social distancing will be required. Burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Mary’s Church or the Champlain Fire Department.
