Eileen D. Halleran Obituary

Eileen Dorothy (McGrath) Halleran passed away peacefully on October 29th surrounded by love and support from family and friends near and far at the age of 94. Graveside Services Tuesday Nov. 3, 2020 11:30a.m. at All Saints Cemetery 700 North River Rd. Des Plaines. **at the family's request, visitation originally scheduled for Monday has been cancelled. Born March 24, 1926 in Chicago, she was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, coworker and friend to many. As with anyone who receives the gift of a long life, Eileen experienced many joys and sorrows. Time with family and friends gave her much happiness. She was someone you could always count on. She made a point to attend every ball game, concert, school conference or special event she could for her kids and grandkids and celebrated many other special occasions with extended family, friends and coworkers. She was quick to lend a helping hand where it was needed. Eileen was a life-long White Sox fan and was thrilled to witness the team’s 2005 World Series win. She enjoyed reading, and in later years playing cards and bingo with her many new friends at Westbrook Senior Living Center where she lived the past 4 years. Eileen also met life’s difficult times with courage, resilience and a quiet strength. No matter the challenge, she never complained and always found a way to move forward. She showed us how to lean into tomorrow while holding yesterday’s memories dear. Eileen is survived by her children; Linda Halleran of Yarmouth, Maine; William Halleran of Portland, Oregon; and Laurence Halleran of St.Charles, Illinois; five grandchildren; Luke Halleran, Aly Halleran and Dillon Halleran and Eric Salvesen and Michael Salvesen; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents; Andrew McGrath and Minni Behrendt McGrath; brothers Andrew McGrath, Arthur McGrath and Wilbur McGrath; husband Luke Halleran and beloved son, Richard Halleran. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eileen’s memory would be welcome to the Alexian Brothers Hospice Care, 901 Martha Street, Elk Grove Village, Illinois 60007 or Calvary Lutheran Church, 535 North McLean Blvd., Elgin, Illinois 60123.
