James (Jim) E. Long Obituary

James (Jim) E. Long of Ravenna passed away on October 22nd at the age of 92. Jim was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 25, 1928 as one of ten children to his parents Jackson and Gussie Long. While living in Pittsburgh, Jim met the love of his life, Corinne (Yeschke) Long. When on leave from his service in the Korean War, the two married. It was here that all six of the couple’s children were born. In his early years, Jim worked as a brick layer alongside his father, brothers, and uncles as part of the family business. Deciding to move his family, Jim then took on a job working for Chrysler here in Ohio. He spent the majority of his working life as a maintenance supervisor at Hamilton Kent Manufacturing Co. His knowledge and experience with the company’s machinery afforded him the opportunity to travel internationally whenever new facilities were being built. Jim then continued his role as a maintenance supervisor at Land O Lakes in Kent, from where he retired. Jim loved life and maintained an active lifestyle. He was a member of both Sequoia Wellness and the Ravenna Athletic Center. He continued working out into his later years. As a member of the Ravenna American Legion, Jim also assisted with the facility’s upkeep. Jim served as an officer in the early years of the Ravenna Rams youth football organization. With his experience in the trades, he was often called upon by family and friends to complete numerous projects and repairs. Jim was a lifelong outdoorsman and never passed on an opportunity to go hunting or fishing with his friends and family; experiencing both beyond his 90th birthday.  Jim’s biggest love in life was his family. He was a dedicated and loyal family man who worked hard to provide for his family. He was extremely supportive and proud of his wife, children, and grandchildren throughout his life. Jim was an outgoing man who loved to interact with others. He was never one to miss the opportunity to share a good story. His family and friends will be left with many fond and humorous memories of his stories, as well as his penchant for sharing his thoughts and opinions — regardless of his surroundings or the circumstances. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Corinne, along with his sons Bobby and Tim. He is survived by his younger sister Mina (Tom) Briggs and will be forever missed by his four remaining children, Ken (Nancy) Long, Jim (Lisa) Long, Corinne “Corky” Long, and Don (Becky) Long as well as his 14 grandchildren Ethan, Chris (Catie), Gina (Aaron), Tony (Heather), Jonathan (Stephanie), Nicole, Jeffrey (Lisa), Brandon (Jessica), Mason, Logan, Carson, Marissa, Emily, and Alexis. Jim was also blessed with 15 great- grandchildren. Jim will also be missed by his loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews. His wish for cremation is being honored and he will be buried alongside his beloved wife at Grandview Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home. Details for a “Celebration of Life” will be forthcoming.  Condolences and memories of Jim may be shared with his family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
