Marvel Jean Davison Obituary

Marvel Jean (DeYoung) Davison

August 4, 1927-October 26, 2020 (Age 93)

Marvel was born in Kalispell, Montana to Max DeYoung and Hilda (Steeple) DeYoung, the eldest of three children. She died in Enumclaw, Washington on October 26, 2020. Marvel is survived by her husband of 71 years, Richard (Dick) Davison, her children, Dan Davison (Claudette), Judy DuPree (Leonard), Beverly Pritchard, Nancy Wattenbarger (Mark), seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jack DeYoung and her sister, Joyce Huddleston.

As a child, Marvel moved from Kalispell to Fairfield, Montana where she grew up on a farm. After graduating from high school, where she was the valedictorian, Marvel entered a Cadet Nurses Training program designed to prepare nurses to work with the forces of WWII. The war was over before Marvel finished her training. She met her future husband, Dick Davison, at the Veterans Hospital in Vancouver, Washington. She was finishing up her training there and he was visiting a friend who was a patient. Dick and Marvel were married in Vancouver in January, 1949.

They moved to the Seattle area in 1951, buying their first house in Auburn before eventually buying a farm outside Enumclaw in 1972. Marvel and Dick had four children. Marvel worked at Auburn General Hospital during those years, working in many different departments, and as the evening nursing supervisor. She finished her nursing career in the Day Surgery department at Enumclaw Hospital, retiring in 1989. Marvel was active in her children’s activities and enjoyed camping and boating on the Puget Sound and local lakes. Marvel never forgot the skills she learned on the farm. She sewed, canned and baked but especially loved to garden. She grew beautiful flowers and together with Dick they had a very productive vegetable garden most of their lives together. Dick had a haying business in Enumclaw and Marvel spend many hours helping him manage that endeavor. After retirement they spent winters in Yuma, Arizona, exploring much of the USA between there and Enumclaw.

Marvel’s faith was very important to her. She was an active member of the Enumclaw Nazarene Church. Marvel was not afraid to die, rejoicing that she would soon be with Jesus. Family was also important to her, especially her grandchildren. Many family gatherings, both large and small, took place at the family farm over the years. Eventually Dick and Marvel sold the farm to a granddaughter and moved into High Point Village Assisted Living in Enumclaw.

The Davison Family would like to thank High Point Assisted Living and Franciscan Hospice for their support caring for Marvel during her final weeks.

Because of Covid restrictions, Marvel’s memorial will be held at a later time.
