Mary was born on July 12, 1943, in Ralston, Oklahoma, the daughter of Louie and Mamie Jean (Smith) Henderson. Mary was raised in Skiatook, attending school in Seneca Indian School in Sequoya, Wyandotte Schools, and later graduating from Skiatook High School graduating Valedictorian of her class. Following graduating, Mary furthered her education at VoTech in Southeastern Oklahoma, where she graduated with her LPN Degree where she scored incredibly high on her state board 98%, she earned a plaque at the State Capital in Oklahoma City in her name. After she completed the nurse's training, Mary worked in Broken Bow at a local nursing home. In the mid-1980s, Mary returned to the Tulsa Area. She worked at Hissom Memorial Center as well as in Cushing at the local nursing home. Mary later returned to further her education, enrolling at United States Truck Driving School. Upon her graduation, she was one of the top students in the class and again was Valedictorian. She was immediately employed by Circle “C” Truck lines and drover over the road for nearly ten years. Mary returned to doing what she loved helping others and once again worked as a nurse for a home health care group. Mary was currently residing in the Sand Springs area, where he has lived for many years. Mary was very vocal about politics and loved to visit with others about them. She loved reading and listening to the news catching up on current events. Mary also enjoyed tending to her yard and sitting in the evenings on her back porch watching the sunset. Survivors include her three children Scott Simpson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Erin Powell of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Alan Powell of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; one sister Nina Gill of Terlton, Oklahoma; one granddaughter Aubrey Powell; one great-granddaughter Alishia Powell and numerous other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her three sons Chris Simpson, Robert Powell, David Drake, and two brothers Frankie Henderson and Carl Lee Haskell. Services will be held on Monday, 2:00 pm November 2, 2020, at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Chaplain Randal Homes officiating. Burial will follow in the Osage Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
