<p>Roger Mathieu, 66, of Somerset, passed away at Charlton Hospital on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.</p> <p>Roger &ldquo;Pete&rdquo; Mathieu was born in Fall River in 1953 the son of the late Robert O. Mathieu and Yvonne (Froment). He attended St. Mathieu&rsquo;s School before his family moved to Somerset. In those days, life at school was extremely challenging for a young man suffering from Epilepsy. Despite an aptitude for doing craft activities, Roger dedicated his life to youth baseball. For nearly 40 years, he rode his bike daily to serve as a volunteered umpire. He helped area kids learn sportsmanship and teamwork. In 1985, Roger was awarded the Ron Frances Plaque for his dedication to youth baseball. Mr. Mathieu exemplifies the selfless spirit of quiet volunteerism represented by the Jack Brayton Award.</p> <p>He is survived by two sisters; Claudette Alberto and her husband Manuel of Westport, MA,&nbsp; Patricia Ford and her husband Robert of Dighton, MA: four brothers; Robert &ldquo;Sharkey&rdquo; Mathieu and his wife Karen of Tiverton, R.I., Ronald Mathieu&nbsp;of San Diego, CA, Michael Goddu and his wife Marcella of Somerset, MA, Stephen Goddu and his wife Susan of Mashpee, MA: sister in law; Maureen of Somerset, MA and many nieces and nephews.</p> <p>Roger is also the son of the late Claire Bernier Goddu Mathieu &ldquo;Mom&rdquo; and the brother of the late Raymond Goddu.</p> <p>All services and burial will be private at the request of the family. Arrangements entrusted to Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton Street, Somerset. Flowers are omitted. The family requested for donations to be made to American Epilepsy Society at www.aesnet.org. 135 S LaSalle St #2850, Chicago, IL 60603.</p>
