Frances Elaine (Gates) Harvey, 85, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Wednesday morning, October 28, 2020 at her home. She was born October 19, 1935 in Urich, Mo., the daughter of Chesley Taylor Gates and Mary Ellen (Jageman) Gates. She married Ernest Larkin Harvey, Jr., on September 3, 1955 at the Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1994. To this union, one daughter, Amy Lynn was born. Frances attended grade school at Mt. Carmel, then Mound school, and was a 1953 graduate of Clinton High School. She began her working career at Elite Cleaners in Clinton. This is where she met and worked with her future husband Ernie. They bought Quality Cleaners in 1959, which Ernie continued to operate until his retirement in 1991. Frances worked for National Farm Loan, then for Clearfield Cheese Company, retiring as credit manager after 25 years of service, and then worked for the Henry County Assessors Office for 12 years retiring in 2001. She was a longtime member of the Clinton United Methodist Church, choir director, United Methodist Women, the Bible Study group, Roberta Rebecca Lodge for over 50 years, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Christian Women's Club and Planning Committee, Red Hats, Mah-Jongg group, Stone Croft Bible Study, Bunko, Classmates Birthday Club, WD 40's, Ambassador for the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce, receiving the Ambassador of the Year Award in 2006. She served on the Board of Directors for the Henry County Historical Society and served on the Advisory Board for the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital Home Service. She was the 2015 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award and the 2008 Missouri Community Betterment Adult Leadership Award. Surviving are one daughter, Amy Lynn Scranton and her husband J.R., Clinton, Mo.; granddog, Max; sister, Sally (Gates) Dorrell and her husband, John; brother, Joe Gates; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Mary Ann (Gates) Long. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the Clinton United Methodist Church. Masks are requested and social distancing will be observed. Services will be streamed live from Frances' tribute page and will remain available there to watch at one's convenience following the conclusion of the service. Friends may call from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. Interment will be in the Englewood Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Clinton United Methodist Church or the Henry County Museum, and these donations may be left in care of the funeral home.
