Dessie Irene Cargal, 95, of Connersville passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, October 27, 2020 at Hickory Creek of Connersville where she had been a resident for three years. She was born on December 3, 1924 in Bicknell, Indiana, one of seven children of Mike and Ora Reynolds Michalos. She graduated from Bicknell High School. On February 9, 1945, she was married in Bicknell to Richard “Dick” Cargal, and they moved to Connersville for residence at that time. Along with her husband, they owned and operated Lindy’s Liquor Store for 11 years until selling the store in 1983. Previously, she had worked for Ford Electronics for five years. Along with her family, Dessie had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She had also previously been a member of the Eagles Lodge Auxiliary. Dessie was known for being an excellent seamstress and a very good cook. In her leisure, she enjoyed dancing with her husband, and she loved attending the grandchildren’s sporting events and Spartan basketball. She also enjoyed playing bingo and reading. Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Ottinger of Fort Wayne and Shannon King of Connersville; five grandchildren, Brian (Malia) Ottinger of Park City, Utah, Julie Smith of Fort Wayne, Lorrie Ottinger of Los Angeles, California, J.R. (Karen) Hunt of Arlington, Indiana, and Travis Hunt of Fishers, Indiana; ten great-grandchildren, Connor Smith, Harrison Smith, Addison Smith, Evey Ottinger, Ileana Ottinger, Zach Coon, Cooper Hunt, Gage Hunt, Ashton Hunt, and Liam Hunt; a sister, Betty Hall of Bicknell, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Cargal, who passed away April 12, 1995; her parents; her sisters, Helen Carlisle and Crevia Saucerman; brothers, John Michalos and David Michalos, and an infant brother. Friends and family may call from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. that day at the funeral home with Danny Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery.
