Logan Melvin Cole Obituary

Logan Melvin "Coker" Cole age 88 of Three Creeks, passed from this life on Friday, May 19, 2017 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. He was born on December 10, 1928 in Union County to Alcus and Gladys Lewis Cole. Logan was a world class welder, working as shop foreman for Wheeling Pipeline for many years and was an accomplished carpenter, as shown by the many decks and other projects he did for family members. A deer and turkey hunter extraordinaire, his annual turkey hunt with his son and grandson were looked forward to all year. His gardens were the envy of the neighborhood. He was a low key man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. Soft spoken to a fault, one event comes to mind that shows that quality.... A retired poultry grower, one time it was during turnip green season that the chicken catchers came and admired his garden. Being the generous person he was, he invited them to get themselves a mess of greens. They just about cleaned them out and instead of being mad, he just kind of chuckled to himself that they must really like greens. He was also always there to help anyone that he could. He was a God-fearing man and a long time member of Three Creeks Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge. His gentle nature and precious smile will forever be missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife of Almost 70 years, Harry Jean Cole, whom preceded him in death by exactly three weeks on April 28th. Harry Jean's passing left him with no will to go on and he surrendered to a combination of sadness and a broken heart. Like true love birds, He just couldn't go on without his sweet little Mamie. Survivors include; one son, Donny Cole and wife "Nan" of Three Creeks; one daughter Carolyn "Pud" Slaughter and husband Doug of El Dorado; one grandson Donny Cole Jr and wife Julie of Locust Bayou; two granddaughters, Sonja Gorman and husband Scotty of Junction City and Dusti Mackey of Dallas, TX; eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; two brothers Morgan Cole and wife Ann and Marvin Cole and wife Christine all of Three Creeks. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Three Creeks Baptist Church followed by an 11:00 am Funeral Service with Bro. Bob Inmon officiating. Interment will follow at Three Creeks Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home. The family wishes to thank Lifetouch Hospice, the staff of ICU and Respiratory therapy at Medical Center of South Arkansas, Dr Robert Tommey and all those who took part in his care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lifetouch Hospice and Three Creeks Baptist Church.
