Evelyn White Obituary

Mrs. Evelyn Y. White, 91, of Tampa, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 26, 2020, with her loving family surrounding her. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue with Reverend Kirk R. Bogen, officiating. Fifteen minutes prior to service time, please visit www.raywilliamsfuneralhome.com for the opportunity to view the service via Live Streaming.  Please follow the CDC guidelines.  Masks are required.  Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida. 

Mrs. White was born in Welaka, Florida, to Reverend John Baptist Young and Beulah Hill Young. She attended elementary school in New York City, before returning to Tampa to attend Booker T. Washington Jr. High and George S. Middleton High School and was honored to be Valedictorian of the Class of 1946.  Mrs. White furthered her education and attended Talladega College where she earned a BA degree in Education. While at Talladega College, she pledged the Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in 1948, ultimately attaining the position of Pearl Sorer. She also earned a Masters degree in Education from the University of South Florida.   

Mrs. White was preceded in death by: her parents, Reverend John Baptist Young and Beulah Hill Young; her husband of 59 years, Mr. Cecil White, Sr.; her brothers, Mr. Clarence Strong and Mr. John B. Young, Jr.; and four sisters, Ms. Francis Y. Epperson, Ms. Loretta Y. Nixon, Ms. Bernice Young, and Ms. Gladys Young.  

She leaves to cherish her memories: two children, Dr. Cecil White, Jr. of Atlantic Beach, Florida, and Ms. Cecilia Renee White of Tampa, Florida; two grandchildren, Attorney Elizabeth Paige White of Washington, D.C. and Mr. Cecil White, III of New York, New York.  She is also survived by a sister, Ms. Lucille Mayzes of Palatka, Florida; a brother, Mr. Leon (Marie) Hill of Palatka, Florida; and a host of grieving nieces and nephews. 

The Visitation will be held Saturday, November 7, one hour prior to service time (10 a.m. – 11 a.m.) at Ray Williams Funeral Home. We are asking family and friends to follow the CDC guidelines. Masks are required.
