Shirley J. Erwin, 72, of rural Parsons, passed away at 12:19 a.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at the Oklahoma State University Medical Center in Tulsa. She later attended Pittsburg State University. Shirley worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, Wal-Mart, Dwayne’s Photo, Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, Southeast Kansas Independent Living, and Life Choices. In her free time she loved watching wheel of fortune, playing cards, going out to eat with family, spending time with her sons, and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Grayson. He became one of her biggest blessings and he really knew how to bring so much joy into her life. She was also an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. Shirley was a kind, caring person who was always willing to lend a helping hand to people and was always putting others before herself. She attended the Church of the Brethren, Foursquare Church, and First Assembly of God Church. She was involved in the Kansas Public Employees Union while she worked at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. Shirley and Albert Erwin were married on August 10, 1984, at the courthouse in Parsons. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2013. She is survived by her sons, Charles Erwin of the home and Michael Erwin, and his wife, Amanda of Parsons; her step-son, John Erwin; her step-daughters, Spring Erwin, and her fiancé, Jay Carter of Birmingham, Al and Shannon Cofer of Fort Smith, MT; her grandson, Grayson Erwin; 10 step-grandchildren; her sister, Elizabeth Midyett of Hemet, CA; and her pride and joy, Zoey, her dog. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Lloyd Midyett. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, November 2, 2020, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
