Antonio 'Tony" Domenico Viani Obituary

Tony passed away on October 17, 2020 in Red Deer, Alberta at the age of 81 years. Tony was born in Civitanova, Isernia, Italy and immigrated with his family to Canada in June 1948.

Tony was a wonderful, generous man with an adventurous spirit who always had a smile on his face. He was a true craftsman at his trade and enjoyed his work as a journeyman sheet metal mechanic and gas fitter. He loved travel, especially to warm destinations and his bag was always packed and ready: places such as England, China, Southeast Asia, Hawaii, Italy, Central America, the Caribbean and repeat trips to Reno and Las Vegas.

Tony is survived by his children Angela (Larry) Scriba of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Michael Viani of Parksville, B.C., Elizabeth (David) Viani of Red Deer, Alberta, Catherine Viani of Maple Ridge, B.C., and Adrien Penland-Viani of Victoria, B.C. Also surviving Tony are his five grandchildren Cory, Lacey, Samantha, Anthony, Michelle; his great-grandchildren  Larissa, Porter, Waylon, Dylan, Carmen & Ivy; Tony’s siblings Sadie Viani of Kamloops, B.C., Marianicola "Nicole" (Bob) Mills of Red Deer, Alberta, Felix Viani of Vancouver, B.C., Tina (Al) Shaw of Kimberley, B.C., Theresa Viani of Calgary, Alberta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tony is also survived by the mothers of his children, Loretta Roth of Ladysmith, B.C. and Mary Penland of Victoria, B.C.; also his close friends Richard Kroeker of Kamloops, B.C., and Al Millions of Courtney, B.C.

He was predeceased by both his parents, father Michele in 1981 and mother Michelina in 2000.

Appreciation and a heartfelt thank you to all the staff and residents at Aspen Ridge Revera, especially Memory Care, where Tony spent his last years. At Tony’s request there will be no funeral service. If desired, memorial donations may be directed to The Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta.
