Patricia “Patty” Ann Murphey, 62, died peacefully on October 26, 2020 at Legacy Living in Baxter Springs, KS. She was born September 18, 1958, in Joplin, MO to William and Wanda (Reynolds) Murphey. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Murphey; a sister, Shannon Wyczynski; and a nephew Gregory Murphey. Survivors include her brother-in-law, Stan Wyczynski; a niece, Jami Thiessen and husband, Kory; a nephew, Jeremy Lawson and wife, Shanna, Baxter Springs, KS; a nephew, Jeffrey Murphey and wife Sylvia, Roswell, NM; a niece, Melissa Morris, Fairland, OK. Patty absolutely adored all of her great nieces and nephews: Blake, Jenna, Bryce, Jarrett, Samantha, Troy, Emma, Kristen and Shawna. Patty, who was born with Down Syndrome, lived a full and extraordinary life. She was a special person whose friendly personality and beautiful smile made people feel comfortable and at ease to be around someone with Down Syndrome. She was gentle, funny, and affectionate and taught us all how to truly appreciate life’s simple pleasures. She loved magazines, Carol Burnett, I Love Lucy, Diet Dr. Pepper and giving hugs. Patty enjoyed listening to music especially The Monkees, The Beatles, Donny and Marie Osmond and Elvis. Most importantly she was loved, and has left a special place in everyone’s heart. Funeral services will be Friday, October 30th at 10:00 a.m. at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs. Burial will follow in the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Pastor Bryan Thiessen will officiate. Patty will lie in state on Thursday from 9:00-5:00 p.m., at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel for those wanting to pay their respects and sign the book.
