Larry Benjamin Fennell Jr. was born in Lampasas,TX on December 19, 1931 to parents Larry Sr. and Willie Mae Fennell. The oldest son, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Donald and James.
He was married to the love of his life, Bobbie, for 57 years until her death in June 2010. They had two daughters Brenda King and Linda Edwards (Charles), and three grandchildren Meika Sherrer, Jarrett King(Diana) and Brittany Edwards.
Larry attended Lampasas Colored School during his elementary and middle school years. Due to segregation he had to attend high school in Austin, TX and graduated from L.C. Anderson High School.
He retired from the City of Austin as the Electrical Maintenance Manager at Robert Mueller Airport. He created the iconic Noel sign on the Mueller Airport tower which still stands in the Mueller community and is lit up during the Christmas holidays each year.
An accomplished artist specializing in oil landscapes he has an extensive collection of various paintings. An avid photographer, he loves trees and landscapes. He developed photos in his own dark room earlier in his life. He was the owner of numerous cameras from antique to digital.
He was a furniture builder that created a platform bed for his daughter, coffee tables for his home, a bookcase for his granddaughter, toy boxes and easels for all his grandkids as well as storage sheds for all of his items. A jazz enthusiast, he has an extensive CD and vinyl collection which he played on his homemade speakers. His favorite group was Earth, Wind and Fire.
A jovial person, he never knew a stranger and made friends easily. He leaves to mourn his passing many family members and friends. His Brookdale family were a special part of his life and his family is very appreciative of the caregivers that were a part of his daily care.
