H. Spencer "Spenny" Coleman

Spenny Coleman H. Spencer Coleman, age 91, was called home Oct. 22, 2020. Spenny was born in Litchfield County Hospital in Winsted May 23, 1929, to Carl L. and Janet (Gray) Coleman of Colebrook River Road, Colebrook. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sally A. (Charity) Coleman. He is survived by his son, Gordon Michael Coleman and his wife Colleen Garrity of Colebrook and his daughter, Jody A. Yager and her husband Daniel of Sutter, CA; grandchildren, Taylor and Molly Yager and John Coleman; and adopted granddaughter, Aurelie Buchanan. He was predeceased by his son, Gregory “Hooper” Coleman; brothers, Robert, George and Gordon and sister, Janet Coleman. Spenny graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in Maine and attended Springfield College. He was a member of St Joseph’s Church. He was employed at Sterling Engineering for 15 years and retired from the State of CT NCCC after 24 years. He served on the Board of Education and Zoning Board of Appeals in Colebrook and coached Colebrook Little League. He served as Colebrook Town Constable and as sexton of the Eno Hill Cemetery for well over 40 years. For over 60 years, Spenny volunteered for the Forge Fire and Colebrook Center Fire Departments. He was an avid hunter and golfer. He enjoyed camping with his family, snowmobiling and trips to Canada in winter months Spenny loved wildlife and nature. He said being in the woods offered him the opportunity to talk with God. Spenny had a large outreach of close friends and golfing buddies who enriched his life threefold. He leaves behind his very special companion of 17 years Tessie the kitty. He also treasured his time with his dogs: Macks the hunting beagle, and three rescues Herman, Sanford and Max. A graveside service will be held Monday 10AM, Nov 2, 2020 at the Eno Hill Cemetery in Colebrook. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted has care of the arrangements.
