JOSEPH (JOE) MAZUR It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Mazur on October 20, 2020. Joe completed the final page of his life, peacefully, with his family by his side. An avid reader, he kept up to date with local, national and international news. He had a sharp mind, whether it was mechanical, medical or historical, he took it all in. Joe especially like to converse about his early days working in the bush camps in Northern Ontario and his days in the Army while stationed in Borden, Ontario and Prince George, B.C., his stories were endless. Upon his discharge in 1946, Joe returned to the farm in Poplarfield where he was born in May of 1923 to parents Peter and Katherine (nee Tarapatski). In 1955 Joe met a young schoolteacher, Eileen Dutkywich from Rossburn, MB., and they were married on October 13, 1956. They farmed and raised their family on the farm. They remained on the farm till 2013, when declining health made it necessary for them to move. It was a difficult move for Dad, as he loved his farm dearly. Joe was a very community minded individual; he served on many boards for many years, the Poplarfiled Community Center, the Poplarfield Credit Union (which eventually consolidated with Arborg), he was a Councilor with the LGD of Fisher, a member of the FRED and ARDA boards, and was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Arborg. Dad spent the last three years at the PCH in Arborg and made friends with the residents and staff, sharing his stories and knowledge. Joseph is survived by his wife Eileen of 64 years, his son Donald, his daughters Angela; Karen and husband Colin and his pride and joy, his three grandsons, Patrick, Gavin, and Chad Finnsson. He is also survived by his only remaining sibling Alma, special nephew Larry (Shirley); his sister in-law Stella Gombola, and his brother in-law Tony Dutkywich as well as many nieces and nephews across Canada. We would like to Thank the amazing homecare workers who helped dad while he was still able to be in his home and to the most caring and professional nursing and support staff at the Arborg Personal Care Home for the excellent care given to Joe. A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date, when we can all gather safely.
