Evelyn Irene Swecker Yoakum, 89, a resident of Valley Bend, passed from this life Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center. Evelyn was born Friday, June 19, 1931, in Huttonsville, a daughter of the late Joseph Swecker and Bertha Defibaugh Swecker. Left to cherish Evelyn’s memory is one daughter, Cynthia Kress and husband, Bill of Ocala, FL, three grandchildren, Shannon Guthrie and husband, Shawn, Carla Auvil and husband, Jeff, and Melissa Putnam and husband, Steve, five great grandchildren, Caleb Rowan, Dalton Auvil, Seth Auvil, Maggie Guthrie, and Owen Guthrie, five siblings, Russell Swecker and wife, Wanda, of Elkins, Katherine Lawrence and husband, Ray of South Daytona, FL, Carroll Swecker and wife, Lenora, of Stuarts Draft, VA, Joe Swecker and wife, Ellen, of Valley Bend, and William Swecker of Elkins, several nieces and nephews, and one sister in law, Cheryl Yoakum. Preceding Evelyn in death were two children, Robert Yoakum and David Yoakum, and sister in law, Judy Swecker. Evelyn was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School. She had worked for Bell South for thirty years. She also volunteered for many years at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center. She enjoyed reading, collecting glassware and stamps, gardening, and yard-saling. She also enjoyed watching Hallmark movies and spending her winters in Florida. She loved her cats and dogs, and she especially loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Evelyn’s request for cremation was honored.
