Paulette Rosaine Obituary

Mrs. Paulette Rosaine of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Darrel Rosaine, passed away in Calgary on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at the age of 76 years.

People brought mom joy, and the love and concern she received from others this past week is a tribute to a life well lived.  Paulette was liked by everyone, and there was no one with whom she could not get along.

She was born a farm girl to John and Margaret Wollersheim and raised near the border town of Coutts.  She shared her time with her two sisters, Rita (Pittman) and Carmel (Gray), and her cousin and dear friend, Marlene (Luijkx).  She attended school in Coutts, Milk River and Calgary, and eventually ended up living in Lethbridge.

In 1965, she married Darrel.  The two of them raised their family in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, and spent time in Calgary before settling back in Lethbridge for retirement. They had fun together, and whether they were out being social, or staying close to home, they enjoyed each others company. Some of their best times were spent on trips to Hawaii with family that they also considered friends.

Paulette was the mother to Jeff and Marcia. In their younger years, she stayed home and focused on them, eventually she went back to work as a bank teller.  She volunteered at their school, chauffeured them to activities, helped with homework, hugged them when they were sad, and encouraged them in their goals.  She taught them trust, honour and compassion.  She opened the door to all their friends and often had a basement full of kids.

Paulette and Darrel celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on the same day Marcia married David.   Paulette was excited when her grandchild Sydney was born, and then a few years later Matthew arrived.  Snuggling with them as babies, playing games as they aged, and watching them in sports was the highlight of Paulette’s existence.  Paulette was excited for Jeff’s upcoming wedding to his fiancé Stacy, and the addition of a third grandchild, Stacy’s son Donovan.

Her relationship with her nephews, nieces and extended family was exceptional.  Paulette invested and enjoyed her time with children, built strong relationships with the family when they were young, and continued to grow the bond with time.  Every generation loved mom and her warm demeanor.

Paulette’s relationships and compassion extended beyond 2 legged beings.  She loved animals.  Her cats ruled the household and she spoiled them rotten!  Her dog Gus was one of the best friends she ever had.  She spent time volunteering at the SPCA and adopted the foster cat she had.

Paulette slowed down the last couple of years due to Parkinson’s.  During Covid she became quite housebound.  Often her only outing was a walk around the block.  The kindness of the neighbours who would stop to say hello brought her the joy and inspiration to keep her legs moving.  On a good day she would connect with her Milk River friends or the Canasta Ladies at the Seniors Center. She loved hearing from friends and neighbours she acquired over her lifetime, she touched more hearts than she knew.

She loved her time with everyone.  She will be missed.
