LaVera Emma Schenke Obituary

LaVera Emma Schenke, 98, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. She was born on November 24, 1921, in Elkport, the daughter Floyd and Bertha (Willie) Williams. LaVera graduated from Elkport and attended Normal Teacher Training and then taught in the one room school.

On March 21, 1947, LaVera was united in marriage to Burdette Schenke at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.  Three children were born to this union. LaVera was a homemaker and loved spending her time golfing, doing ceramics, cards, traveling, gardening and fishing.  She most of all loved spending time with her family.

LaVera is survived by her three children, Marilee Pityer of Manchester, Gene (Patti) Schenke of Colesburg and Bruce (Doris) Schenke of Colesburg; eight grandchildren, Johnathan (Larissa) Pityer, Tarilee (Jeffery) Deutmeyer, Daren (Jackie) Pityer, Emily (Shawn) Matt, Amy (Matt) Sitzmann, Andrew Schenke, Cory (Casey) Schenke, and Jason (Jessica) Schenke; three step grandchildren, Brian (Nadine) Olmstead, Eric (Virginia) Olmstead and Nathan Olmstead; 15 great-grandchildren, Stephen and Kody  Deutmeyer, Michael and Jared Pityer, Alexandra Pityer, Kinnick, Ella and Kayden Matt, Nora and Max Sitzmann, Rowan and Ryker Schenke, Brayden, Brody and Liam Schenke; two step great-grandchildren, Chase and Declan Olmstead; two sisters, Jean Morarend and Gerry Williams; sisters-in-law, Shirley Williams and Hope Schenke; one brother-in-law, Joe Wiskus, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding LaVera in death was her husband Burdette in 2019, her parents, Floyd and Bertha, her brothers, Marvin (Bernice) Williams, Ray Williams, Ivan Williams, Julius Williams; sisters, Irene (Glen) Gleason and Faye Wiskus; and brother-in-law, Leonard Morarend.

Because of COVID-19, masks are required at the funeral home.
