Tom LeRoy Ewing Obituary

Tom Ewing left this earth on October 23, 2020, to go Bass fishing in heaven. He was born in April 1949 in Vancouver, Washington. He was raised in Vancouver until his senior year of high school when his family moved to Central Park. On the first day of school, he met his future wife Viki on the school bus. He loved competitive sports. He was an ace pitcher on his little league team. There was even an article in the Vancouver Columbian about him. He also played slow pitch, he was in the Grays Harbor Pool League and loved volleyball even being considered a legend for his serving ability. He started working when he was eight years old, picking strawberries. He also delivered newspapers and worked at a car wash where he got to drive a new Corvette. He had a job with Pepsi in Aberdeen working at night and while using the forklift he dropped a pallet of bottles. He called his mom who went and helped him clean it up. Another job was working at the late Chair Factory in Hoquiam where he rolled his car on his way to work on First Street. He started working for Weyerhaeuser in 1968 in the woods. After an injury, he went back to work in the sawmill. He worked for Weyco for 42 years until it shut down in 2009, leaving as the main computer guy to keep the machines running. Tom and Viki were married in May 1968 and lived in Aberdeen for three years before moving to their home in Central Park where they raised their two daughters. Tom and Viki celebrated 52 years of marriage this past May. Camping was a big part of his life. After the girls both married there were always family camping trips during the summer. In 2011, when Viki retired, they bought a motorhome and went to Alaska for two months. In 2013, they traveled around the United States with their good friends Bill and Maria for 7 months. They also did the ‘snow bird’ thing to California for five years. Tom’s biggest passion was his bass boat and all the lakes he fished. He participated in many Bass tournaments. He has a trophy wall in the shop with trophies not just from fishing but pool league and volleyball. His last Bass trip was to Maryhill State Park and on a clear sunny day on his first cast, fish on! He is survived by wife, Viki Ewing, daughter, Kari Aschenbrenner (Andy Aschenbrenner), daughter, Tracy Ewing Barre (Andy Barre), Sister-in-law, Cindy Nieznalski, Grandkids (Sydney Potter, Kylee Potter, Joey Aschenbrenner, Anneliese Aschenbrenner, Tessa Johnson, Aliss Barre, Zack Barre, Hannah Birdsall, & Sophie Barre) two great-grandkids, and two brothers Louie Adams of Idaho and Jim Adams of Florida. A celebration of life for Tom will be held at a later date.
